Film - The Chair

Chair

We love indie films, horror and graphic novels. This kickstarter combines them all...

A star-studded cast in one of the darkest comic book films to date. No zombies. No vampires. On death row, the only monster is man.

The Chair follows the story of Richard Sullivan, an innocent man struggling to escape execution on death row. Witnessing the torture and murder of his fellow inmates at the hands of the prison's sadistic and psychotic Warden, Sullivan decides that the only way to survive is to fight back. But as he matches the savagery and brutality occurring in the prison, Sullivan is forced to come face to face with his own sanity.

This Kickstarter aims to make all of the above possible. A year ago, The Chair was just a graphic novel and a script. The comic had been created in 2006 as a six-part mini-series by Peter Simeti and was later compiled in 2008 as a graphic novel. Kevin Christensen's art and Erin Kohut's editing helped to create one of the flagship titles at Alterna Comics and Peter took the decision to make the transition to film.

comic to film

This is the second crowdfunder for the project, the first having funded pre-production costs and the actual filming of the story, starring Timothy Muskatel at Sullivan and Bill Oberst Jr as the sadistic Warden. Now they're looking for funding for the post-production needed to turn 100 hours of raw film into a proper cinematic release.  With rewards ranging from stickers and T-shirts to one-off commissioned art and supersized South Park like felt dolls, as well as the film itself, there are plenty of incentives to back such an innovative project.
