Book - The Lazarus Gate

Step in to the start of a brand-new supernatural crime series from Titan Books as they announce The Lazarus Gate from Mark A Latham...

LONDON, 1890. Captain John Hardwick, an embittered army veteran and opium addict, is released from captivity in Burma and returns home, only to be recruited by a mysterious gentlemen’s club to combat a supernatural threat to the British Empire. As his path crosses with that of “The Artist,” a mysterious yet brilliant painter whose medium encompasses something far more otherworldly than mere oil and acrylic paints, he soon finds himself drawn into a world just beyond our own in a captivating adventure of espionage and misdirection.

The Lazarus Gate is the tale of a secret war waged between parallel universes, between reality and the supernatural. A war fought relentlessly by an elite group of agents; unsung heroes, whose efforts can never be acknowledged, but by whose sacrifice we are all kept safe.

Also due to contribute to Titan Books’ on-going range of Sherlock Holmes novels from 2017, in The Lazarus Gate Latham aptly demonstrates his ability to portray a vivid and menacing London: from the wood panelled parlours of gentleman’s clubs, to smog-coated streets and seedy opium dens. With a setting reminiscent of cult anime show Black Butler, The Lazarus Gate is wonderful crossover hit for fans of historical fantasy, crime and supernatural tales alike.

MARK A. LATHAM is a writer, editor, history nerd, frustrated grunge singer and amateur baker from Staffordshire, UK. A recent immigrant to rural Nottinghamshire, he lives in a very old house (sadly not haunted), and is still regarded in the village as a foreigner. Formerly the editor of Games Workshop’s White Dwarf magazine, Mark dabbled in tabletop games design before becoming a full-time author of strange, fantastical and macabre tales. His debut novel, The Lazarus Gate, is out October 2015, published by Titan Books.
