Keanu

A film about drug gangs, kidnapping and a kitten called after Keanu Reeves, that spoofs the John Wick story? The internet is just going to love this...

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, a.k.a. the hugely popular comedy duo Key & Peele, star in New Line Cinema’s action comedy Keanu. The two play Clarence and Rell, cousins who live in the city but are far from streetwise. When Rell’s beloved kitten, Keanu, is catnapped, the hopelessly straight-laced pair must impersonate ruthless killers in order to infiltrate a street gang and retrieve the purloined feline. But the incredibly adorable kitten becomes so coveted that the fight over his custody creates a gang war, forcing our two unwitting heroes to take the law into their own hands.

Here's the official trailer. (find the NSFW Red Band trailer here)

Only the film didn't feature Keanu Reeves at all, just that incredibly cute kitty with his name.
But then the news broke yesterday that the Matrix star IS involved. Reeves' "people" initially declined the chance to add his voice to the film but the star had a change of heart after the film’s initial trailer came out.

“Apparently, his sister showed him the trailer and said, ‘Hey, you gotta see this. You’re gonna love this!’ He flipped out and got in touch with us directly to say ‘If there’s anything I can do, let’s make this work,'” Director Peter Atencio explained.

So yes, when you get to the *** spoiler *** scene in the movie where Peele’s character is on a drug trip, and a cat kind of leads him through his hallucinations,  ***  end spoiler *** the cat's voice really IS Keanu Reeves.

And, as if that wasn't enough catnip for you, New Line then released this spoof trailer for the film. You're welcome.

Keanu has been rated R by the MPAA for violence, language throughout, drug use and sexuality/nudity. (We assume the film has the same rating...)
