2015 sees the centenary of UK’s Film Distributors’ Association and there will be a Philharmonia Concert on 4th June 2015 at Royal Festival Hall to celebrate British Film music from Carry On to Harry Potter...

2015 sees a year of festivities for the UK’s Film Distributors’ Association as it celebrates 100 years of organised feature film releasing in the UK & Ireland. On 4th June, as part of the celebrations, the FDA in association with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra will present an evening of film music celebrating Britain's outstanding contribution to cinema, at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Conducted by Nicholas Dodd, whose film music credits include Avatar and Quantum of Solace, the orchestra will perform instantly recognisable UK movie music including: Chariots of Fire, The Dambusters and Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Full playlist is listed below. Tickets available to buy here.

President of the FDA, Lord Puttnam of Queensgate CBE commented:

I am delighted that this concert by the Philharmonia Orchestra celebrates 100 years of UK film distribution – the essential process of releasing films and connecting them with audiences. But I’m all the more thrilled because so many of the movies that enthralled me as a child were musicals whose inspiration played a vital role in my subsequent career as a producer.

Close your eyes and think of what ‘Britishness’ means to you and I've little doubt you’ll soon start humming one or two movie themes. This evening’s concert offers a variety of ever-fresh tracks which, long after they were written, still seem to define an essential aspect of our culture.

The Official Chart company’s chart of movie soundtrack sales from the last 21 years shows British movies lead the way in sales, with Mamma Mia topping the chart.  Full chart listing with release date of the top 30 selling movie soundtracks since 1994 (when records began)
