Event - I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again... Again
The seminal BBC Radio classic comedy is set to return in a one off show and our own Barnaby Eaton-Jones needs your help...
I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again was a seminal BBC Radio classic comedy, spawning The Goodies and Monty Python's Flying Circus and, most importantly, the forerunner to I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. It featured John Cleese, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor, David Hatch and Jo Kendall. This show's mix of anarchic madness, silly puns, catchphrases galore and gloriously manic characters ran from 1964 to 1973 and had a youth following that made live recordings seem more like a rock concert than a comedy show.
By crowdfunding this production, the team aim to bring a 'Best Of' package together in one LIVE theatre show in The Bacon Theatre, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, on February 19th 2016. The show's exclusive licence has been given to The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group, who are an award-winnng and critically-acclaimed touring company. They are hoping to raise the production budget, in order to adapt, rehearse and stage this unique show, via the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo.

BILL ODDIE (Comedian, Ornithologist and Scriptwriter/Performer/Songwriter) says: "I have several reasons for not encouraging these young whipper-snappers from doing this show in public (actually, I don't much care for the idea of them doing it in private either). Firstly, they may be funnier than we were - hard to believe I know - which would annoy me a lot. Secondly, I do not wish in anyway to revive the careers of Tim BrookeTaylor, Graeme Garden and in particular John Cleese. I would like a written guarantee that none of them will make any money out of this, especially not John. I, on the other hand, will be charging double PRS rates for my songs. Otherwise, I wish them good luck, although I don't mean it."
JEM ROBERTS (Comedian, Historian and Official Biographer of 'Blackadder', 'Douglas Adams' and 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue') adds: "ISIRTA remains the closest that radio comedy has ever got to Beatlemania, and we'll never see the likes of those anarchic Sunday evening recordings again... Except, now, perhaps we will. Or something very like it. And I hope I get a free ticket... OH WHAT A GIVEAWAY!"
And DIRK MAGGS (Legendary Producer, Director and Writer... and Adaptor/Director of this project) comments: “I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again was one of BBC Radio’s funniest comedy shows. Its illustrious cast included David Hatch, who went on to become Managing Director of BBC Radio. For Christmas 1991, David awarded me a productivity bonus. In lasting gratitude, I am investing the entire £5.75 in this tribute show.”
For The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group, adaptor/director/producer BARNABY EATON-JONES admits: “I've always wondered why this rich vein of comedy greatness wasn't tapped sooner and I'm currently rejuvenating my funny bones by drinking deeply from the classic comedy within. It's really not like work to be bringing this 'Best Of' show to life on stage and for an audience to be introduced, or re-introduced, to such crazy creations as Lady Constance de Coverlet, Professor Prune and his Electric Time Trousers, The Tillingbourne Folk and Madrigal Society, Julie Andrews Dirty Songbook and the Rhubarb Tart Of Omar Khayyam, to name but a few. By contributing to our Indiegogo campaign to cover our production budget, you'll be ensuring that all the money from the tickets to see the show will go directly to the two charities that Mr Garden and Mr Oddie have championed”
