SotD - Middle Kids

Neil Gardner is a bit of an audio guru, being the brains behind an award winning spoken word production company. But sometimes he likes to retreat from the digital studio to listen to some music analogue style, on vinyl. This time he discovers Middle Kids...

Format: 7″ purple vinyl

NB: Before I talk about the two tracks in this release I would just like to say WOW, WOW, WOW. What a discovery this band is. They could well be my favourite new act of 2017! This is exactly why I subscribed to Flying Vinyl’s monthly service (more info)… to be introduced to amazing new acts that I would never stumble across on my own. I just hope a full LP is on the very near horizon coz I want one RIGHT NOW!!!

Side A: luscious beautiful vocals slathered liberally over soul-enriching indie folk Americana vibes. A hint of Alannis Morisette meets Paramore. This is beyond epic soundscape, transcending musical dimensions to take you to a new land of evocative storytelling and brave vistas of vocal brilliance. Wistful and heartwarming at the same time…songs don’t come much finer than this.

Side B: a militarily rhythmic confabulation of multi-layered instrumentation mixed skilfully with far-off echoic vocals in a gorgeous indie folk soup of flavoursome insistent sounds. You fall under the spell of the sad yet uplifting lyrics. You tap your toes to the big drums. Glorious vocal harmonies with exotic but on-point vibrato leave you ringing in sympathetic vibratory harmony.

Finyl Thought: I never thought I would be so surprised and so excited about new music ever again.
