Today at the Proms - Proms 34 & 35

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2018, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 34: Barber, Britten & Copland and Prom 35: New York, Sound of a City...

A safe start to tonight's proceedings with Walton, Copland and Britten and, even though the full opera was very poorly received on its premiere (with one critic calling it hair-curlingly awful) two scenes from Antony and Cleopatra by Samuel Barber (he of the Adagio that everybody knows a cover of thanks to William Orbit).

The late prom is another of the "no actual listings so you don't know what it's going to be but it certainly won't be classical" concerts. Looking at the list of performers we could get harmonic American folk, lo-fi techno and even experimental occultist gospel. Oooookay then.

Here's Sharon Van Etten, from her appearance on Twin Peaks just to show willing.
