Today at the Proms - Prom 45

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2019, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 45: Mississippi Goddam ...



You know what? This isn't a classical music prom tonight and I'm unashamedly going to love it just as a concert. I can't even tell you in advance what they're going to play because there is no published programme for it. I do know that singers Lisa Fischer and Ledisi are going to be involved but I've never heard them sing before.



So why am I so excited to hear a prom that I know very little about? Well, the subtitle of the prom is a Homage to Nina Simone and I have been a huge fan of that lady ever since I can remember, so I'm expecting to hear jazz and blues and gorgeously rich vocals singing songs that I know off by heart and always make me cry. It's not a proper prom but I really don't care because I'm feeling good...
