Film - Women Talking

From writer/director Sarah Polley, and inspired by real events, watch the official trailer for Women Talking, which heads to cinemas in February ...

In 2010, the women of an isolated religious community grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith.

Women Talking is based on the book by Miriam Toews, which is an imagined response to real events where, in a remote Mennonite colony, over a hundred girls and women were knocked unconscious and violated-by what many thought were ghosts or demons-as punishment for their sins. Their accounts were chalked up to 'wild female imagination.'.

When the women learn that they were in fact drugged and attacked by men in their community, they hold a secret meeting in a hayloft. They have two days to make a plan before the rapists are bailed out and brought home: will they dare to escape?

Directed by Sarah Polley from her own screenplay, the film stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, and Frances McDormand.

Women Talking is in cinemas from February 17th.
