News - Brit Awards

The Brit Award winners were announced last night. Here's the full list of winners and how Susan Omand did with her predictions...

First off I must admit that I didn't watch the full show live on TV so I was able to fast forward through a LOT of the musical entertainment on offer, although I did listen to the Bowie tribute, thankful that the rumoured horrendous supergroup did not appear, nor Lady GaGa, but that, instead we got treated to a wonderful montage of hits played by Bowie's own backing band before Lorde, who David Bowie once praised for creating music that "felt like listening to tomorrow," sang Is There Life on Mars. I will also admit to shedding a tear, especially after Bowie was posthumously honoured with the BRITs Icon Award (one of only two recipients for this accolade, the other being Elton John in 2013), presented by Annie Lennox to Gary Oldman, who gave a moving speech in tribute to his friend.

Other than this, all went much as expected with Adele collecting four awards in total, for British Female Solo Artist, British Single, BRITs Global Success Award - the first BRIT to be presented from space, with astronaut Tim Peake sending a special video message from the International Space Station - and the highly coveted MasterCard British Album of the Year; the most award wins for an individual act since Blur took four awards home in 1995.

The BRIT Awards 2016 with MasterCard, broadcast exclusively on ITV in the UK and hosted by the ubiquitous Ant and Dec. The show was streamed on YouTube across the world (excluding the UK and Ireland) for the third consecutive year, with performances being exclusively available on Google Play Music free of charge shortly after the show. Google Play Music will be making a donation to Nordoff-Robbins and The BRIT Trust for every song downloaded or streamed. All BRIT performances will be available on vevo.com and the individual YouTube artist channels.
