TV - Sherlock

In all the #SDCC trailer mayhem over the weekend, the new Series 4 teaser trailer for Sherlock crept out. Susan Omand gave it a (very) quick watch...

Sherlock will return to screens with three brand-new episodes promising laughter, tears, shocks, surprises and extraordinary cases...

Series four begins with the nation’s favourite detective, the mercurial Sherlock Holmes, back once more on British soil, as Doctor Watson and his wife, Mary, prepare for their biggest ever challenge - becoming parents for the first time.

Now, it may be just me, but there's a few things about this trailer that I don't quite get. The whole "Let's borrow the flickery-screens hacky thing from Mr Robot" for a start. *sigh* Really? Yeah ok, it's cool and trendy and was a "fun" way to end the last series but it's been-done-to-death cool and trendy now. Keep up!  And what's with the apparent mental breaking of Holmes himself? One of the main USP's of his character is his almost Vulcan-like lack of emotion to the point of sociopathy. Why change this perception of his character by making him susceptible; human almost? What is that going to achieve - are we meant to care about him more now? And why are they trying to make series 4 seem more like a Bourne/Bond action film than anything remotely brain engaging?

However, like I say, it may be just me that thinks like this and I have to add one more question to the above list - does this trailer really make me want to watch the new series?

Watch it below and judge for yourself. After all, "It's not a game anymore."
