SotD - Saturday Throwback: Big Love

Song of the Day Saturday Throwback is some music from back in the day to kick off your weekend in style. This week Steve Taylor-Bryant needs some Big Love from Fleetwood Mac...

So it was my only day off. Do I get a nice lie in? That bit of extra sleep so desperately needed? Do I bugger. Instead I have to drop the car off to Vauxhall (other car retailers with annoying heater recalls before your car catches fire are available) and endure a visit to my medicine man to possibly have one or both of my big toenails removed as they both seem to want to get back into my body. They are barstewards. The only saving grace seemed to be that both these annoyances involved time on my own. Time I wouldn't normally get as the children folk are still off school (6 weeks my arse! Feels like 6 months) so I am sitting around a lot with my headphones in and a "do not talk to me" face on for good measure. What to listen to though? Is there really a song for every occasion? A quick Google of "songs to have your toenails removed to" surprisingly brought some results. So here I am in a waiting room listening to Fleetwood Mac. This is a SotD article and I'll pick the one that gets the video in a moment but I'd like to take a second to say it's been over 2 decades since I've listened to Mick Fleetwood et al and I can't work out why it's been so long. They are musically pleasing to the ear. Nothing is technically top of its game but there's a lot of reward in being a bit basic and solid sometimes. Lyrically they are quite imaginative, writing for both makes of human I imagine would be tricky. And it appears my teenage crush on Stevie Nicks never actually went away, just into hibernation.

I'm listening to Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits, not one of the studio recordings. It's less than a fiver so thought I'd take a punt. And there is some cracking tunes from my past life on there. Gypsy, You Can Go Your Own Way, Tusk is still an astonishing song, Little Lies had me bopping my angry head in a public place, and Dreams is still a favourite it seems. But today's Throwback SotD? Enjoy with me Big Love...
