Today at the Proms - Prom 15

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2018, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 15, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto ...

But there's more than just Beethoven this evening, even though it will be excellent and the soloist is the amazing Paul Lewis. Described as "a concert of darkness and light" by the BBC, for some reason I am excited to hear the World Premiere of What Did We See tonight, a special commission by Tansy Davies that has been inspired by the awful events of 9/11. It will be utterly fascinating to hear how she constructs her, usually highly emotive, walls of sound from the fragments.

I think the sunny calmness of Brahms will definitely be needed after that, especially if this chat (for the Barbican) about the opera that Davies' orchestral suite is taken from is anything to go by.

Here's the full programme for this evening's Prom which you can listen to live on Radio 3 or on the iPlayer
