Today at the Proms - Prom 20

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2019, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 20: Pekka Kuusisto and the BBC SSO ...



Twenty Proms in already! Where does the time go?



Anyway, we can look forward to a Sibelius evening while we ponder the temporal mysteries of the universe.

If we start at the end of the evening [is that the Finnish finish? - Ed] after the interval we'll get a fascinating insight into the original draft [so the unfinished Finnish finish - Ed] of Sibelius' 5th Symphony which got much refined [he finally finessed and finished the unfinished Finnish finish then? - Ed] over the next four years but it will be interesting to see where it started. 

Before the interval we get Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor, thanks to the Finnish (shut up Ed) violinist Pekka Kuusisto. If you're a regular proms viewer, you'll remember him from his impromptu encore from 2016 (below), so it will be fun to see if he does something similar this year...
