Today at the Proms - Prom 64

Continuing our daily coverage of what's on at The Proms 2019, Susan Omand has a quick look at the programme for Prom 64: The Breaks ...

Remember to watch PROM 57 - Shanghai Symphony Orchestra/Long Yu AND PROM 54 - Duke Ellington’s Sacred Music tonight on BBC Four

*Sigh* Them's the Breaks indeed.

I saw tonight's funk-heavy prom list below and then went looking in the schedules to find the earlier evening "proper" prom. Nope. There's not one this time. This is it for today.

You know my feelings on "not classical" music at the proms already, so I won't go on about it again, suffice it to say that, while there is indeed some brilliant music on this very long programme list, I feel that it would be better heard in a different context to the Proms setting [she says, going on about it again - Ed].

However, the music is being re-imagined by The Heritage Orchestra, who are currently doing great things creating orchestral versions of Ibiza anthems with the brilliant Pete Tong, so I shall give it the benefit of the doubt this time.

Here's the full programme for this evening's Prom which you can listen to live from 19:30 on Radio 3 or on the iPlayer
