SotD - Iggy Pop

Listen to Iggy Pop cover Dylan... Dylan Thomas that is, with this stunning spoken word recording of the famous 1947 poem Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night...

Yes, Song of the Day really should be Poem of the Day but we absolutely couldn't resist this wonderful version of Dylan Thomas' poem as read by the equally wonderful Iggy Pop. Another Thomas, this time trumpeter, composer, and vocalist Leron Thomas along with guitarist Sarah Lipstate (aka Noveller), who both also collaborated on Iggy Pop's latest album Free, perform the ultra cool backing instrumentals.

Free is Iggy Pop's 16th studio album and came out back in September 2019. He said at the time, “This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice,” continuing, “By the end of the tours following Post Pop Depression, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long. But I also felt drained. And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free. I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need—not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”

So let this recording "kind of happen" for you too and do not go gentle into that good Friday night.
