NotBaconBits - From Ian Dury to...

Album cover - picture of someone swimming in a pool being projected onto a room wall

Yesterday we played Sweet Gene Vincent by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. So what song was chosen for today's #NotBaconBits connection? You can thank @RenZelen for this one ...

As always for #NotBaconBits, once you've listened to today's choice, we're looking for your suggestions for tomorrow's track. Join in by tweeting us @albiemediaAM with the #NotBaconBits hashtag or adding your suggestions in the comments of our #NotBaconBits Facebook posts - remember the link can be as simple or contrived as you want, in any music genre (it doesn't have to be classical or pop) and you can link to anything about the song - the title, the artist, words in the song, something about the video ... anything as long as you can explain how you got there and show your workings. If we pick your suggestion for the link, you'll get the credit in that day's article and shout outs on our social networking streams.

A great selection of tunes were suggested for today. @STBwrites went with Ian Dury's film career to get a song by Bush. @OmandOriginal went with a very tenuous link to Bowie's Jean Genie [oh there's a surprise - Ed]. But today's #NotBaconBits track comes from @RenZelen with this:

Ian Dury was singing about Gene Vincent. The other famous ‘Vincent’ song is the one Don McLean wrote about Vincent Van Gogh. I nominate the song 'Euphoria, Take my Hand,' by the Glasgow band Glasvegas, as according to their frontman James Allen, "Euphoria" is a song about choices, "and opposites. The crossroads, man, it's the choices. Vincent Van Gogh, Wheatfield with Crows. The past, man, and the choices you have." Van Gogh's painting* shows a large field of wheat against a dark forbidding sky, with crows circle menacingly overhead. The observer is faced with the indecision of three separate paths in the foreground.

Now it's your turn, for the final time this run as tomorrow is the last day of our #NotBaconBits Staycation. What will you connect to? Euphoria? Glasvegas? Hands? Crows? Or will you go with something else? The choice is yours, as long as you can show your working and tell us how you get there!

* by the way, here's the painting referred to above.

Van Gogh painting. Swirly yellow field with dark blue sky above. Thirty or so simplistic black birds flying.
