#NotBaconBits - The Blue Monday Edition

Monday again. *sigh* But it's not just any Monday on AlbieMedia and we're looking for more of your suggestions. Susan Omand explains ...

It's the middle of what feels like the longest month of the year/decade/century so far. The festive season, such as it was, is a distant memory; our New Year's resolute bids to get fit, drink less alcohol, and be a better human being have fallen by the wayside resulting in guilt-infested chocolate, hangovers and arguments; the credit card bills are thudding onto the doormat and pay day is still weeks away; it's freezing cold, it's wet and it's dark. Add to this the current lockdown that means we're stuck staring at the same four walls day after day after day after day... [but at least we're safer from the lurgie that way - Ed] and it's really not a happy time for many of us.

It's little wonder then that today, the middle Monday in January, is known as Blue Monday. But never fear dear reader, AlbieMedia is here to brighten up the dark and dreary days of the rest of January because, for the next two weeks, #NOTBACONBITS IS BACK!!

Regular readers will know how to play by now but, to explain the game for those who haven't played before... They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, I hope that Classic FM’s weekday Breakfast show, presented by the inimitable Tim Lihoreau, is incredibly flattered as we “borrowed” the idea from them. Every weekday, Tim played the Breakfast Serial (serial/cereal - geddit?) – a classical track that is, in some way, linked to the previous day’s Breakfast Serial offering, whether that link is to do with the title, the composer, the orchestra or something even more obscure. But, because we’re not just a Classical Music site, we decided to expand the idea over all the music genres, so you may get a rock track linking to a jazz track, linking to a 15th century madrigal and you must be able to explain the link between one track and your choice for the next one step by step. It can be as simple or as contrived as you want - in fact the more contrived the better! There's no prizes, it's just for fun so enjoy today's song then come up with your linked song choice for tomorrow.

As always for #NotBaconBits, once you've listened to today's choice, we're looking for your suggestions for tomorrow's track. Join in by tweeting us your suggestions @albiemediaAM with the #NotBaconBits hashtag or adding your suggestions in the comments of our #NotBaconBits Facebook posts - remember the link can be as simple or contrived as you want, in any music genre (it doesn't have to be classical or pop) and you can link to anything about the song - the title, the artist, words in the song, something about the video ... anything as long as you can explain how you got there and show your workings. If we pick your suggestion for the next song link in the chain, you'll get the credit in that day's article and shout outs on our social networking streams.

And what more appropriate way is there to start off a new #NewBaconBits run on Blue Monday than with the full seven and a half minutes of the song Blue Monday by New Order.

So, how would you link to this song? Colours? Days of the Week? New Order? Something else? Let us know and play along. Who knows, you may even have fun!
