Gaming - British Academy Games Awards Nominations
So it seems Control and Death Stranding are the popular choices this year with 11 nominations apiece, the most for a single game since the awards began back in 2004. I must admit that I don't know that much about Control, other than it's basically a third person tactical shooter with a side of puzzle solving just with the added bonkersness to the storyline that only Remedy (they of Max Payne fame) can provide. Death Stranding, however, has been dominating my gaming buddies' timelines on social media as "the one to watch" this year. It does look BEAUTIFUL with a stunning voice cast and, while the gameplay is reportedly a slow burn and "a bit boring after a while" according so some, it's definitely got an intriguing narrative and I love the idea of the open world and the logistical strategising needed for it.
Next on the numbers list is the detective style rpg Disco Elysium, the debut release from ZA/UM with 7 nominations and there's five nominations each for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Life is Strange 2 (episodes 2-5) and Outer Wilds.
I'm surprised, for all the hype, that Untitled Goose Game only got 4 nominations, alongside Knights and Bikes though.
By the way, voting is now open for the EE Mobile Game of the Year, the only award voted for by the public. The shortlist is Assemble with Care, Call of Duty: Mobile, Dead Man’s Phone, Pokémon Go, Tangle Tower and What the Golf.

And, as we told you earlier this week, Hideo Kojima, creator of Death Stranding, will receive the Fellowship, the highest accolade that BAFTA can bestow. So that's really another nomination for the game... isn't it?
Anyway, the Awards will be hosted by Dara O’Briain and will take place on Thursday 2nd April at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank. The Awards, including a red carpet show, will be live streamed on BAFTA’s Facebook, Twitch, Twitter and YouTube channels - www.bafta.org/games/howtowatch and you can watch and laugh in realtime at how many of these ** will win ** labels I get wrong!
